back…. again.

When I started up this blog again earlier this year in July, I had promised myself that I would keep it going.  But what happened?  I found out in September my sister’s breast cancer had spread to several major organs.  To say the least, I was everything you can imagine: devastated, sad, in disbelief, numb.  I was frozen for awhile there and I couldn’t do anything productive because all I could think of was my sister, her husband, and her two young boys, 5 and 2. Writing this blog just seemed so frivilous in the big scheme of things. I didn’t know what to write and didn’t think anything I wrote would be appropriate to what I was feeling.

What I was able to do was photography because some shoots were booked ahead of time. Even then, I wanted to just finish them so I can get back to caring for my sister. Is this a new job or role I had to help my sister? Or am I attending to her to avoid what I should be doing? As hard as it is, I realized that I must live my life and keep moving forward because no one will do that for me but me. My family is still priority and my life is even more important.

As a stay-at-home mom, life has been getting easier because my youngest is now over one year old (already) and my oldest is 2.5 years. They are actually playing together at times and I can do some chores without much worrying. My youngest also started walking just before she turned one so she’s been walking for a few months now. Without these two little people, I don’t know how I would still have reason to smile.

I had wrote “where’s me in all of this” back in September and today I can say I have myself back and this is because I am fully ready to take on the reigns of my life. I’m responsible for everything that happens in my life, and instead of complaining like I did in that blog entry, I’m going to do something about it and take my life back. I can have it all: be the best mother, be the best wife, be the best business woman, be the best person and still be there for my sister – I just need to move forward.

I AM EXCITED!

PS – My sister is still fighting on strong and I know she will get through this. I know she will be healthy and healed real soon because I pray for her everyday and see her in my mind as strong and living her life like never before. If you would pray with me, I would so appreciate it. Thank you.

mommy blogs: is it too late to start one?

What is a mommy blog? A mommy blog is a blog where you write about the trials and tribulations of your daily life as a mom which can be about a specific theme or basically anything you can imagine. Moms write to share ideas about parenting, share their experiences about being pregnant, or just to blow off steam. You can write the blog just for yourself as a diary or share the blog with others as a way of letting your love ones (near and far) stay in touch with your family.  Whether you are writing for yourself or a bigger audience, it’s up to you. You can make it as big as you want.  There are millions of mommy blogs out there but is there room for one more?  I would say YES because what makes a blog unique is YOU.  Every mom is different and has her own opinions and views so your blog will not be the same as any of the blogs out there.  You can rest assure your mommy blog will be one of a kind.  Let’s start one!

How do you start a blog? There are many websites that you can start a blog for free on which are easy to use with lots of templates and easy navigation screens. Here are just a few popular ones:

If you want to make your blog stand out from all the other ones out there, getting your own domain name and hosting service would be crucial. Your own domain name would make you stand out because it’s personalized, customized, and designed by you, the unique mom. The domain name can tell people who you are, what your blog is about, and makes you distinct. You can also have your own personalized email addresses by having your own domain name. The domain name registrar that I like to use is GoDaddy.com because they are one of the largest ones out there with the cheapest price. They currently have .com domains for $7.49 a year! That’s cheap for having your own special domain name.

Once you have your domain name, you will need web hosting. You need web hosting so that you can “store” your website on the internet. Web hosting companies store your website data on their servers or data centers. I web host with Host Gator as they are most reliable, easy to use, and, more important, install your WordPress blog for you in just minutes. You won’t have to be a techie to use this web host because their admin panel is so easy to use. They also have a lot of freebies like if you want to build an online store, you can install a shopping cart to your website with just a few clicks. With Host Gator, you can view your traffic in many different ways and have real time stats as well.  They have very little down time if at all, and their customer service is fantastic because they have real live online help – which I’ve used at times even at two in the morning! What I love most about this web hosting service is that you can create subdomains (i.e. subdomain.domainname.com instead of www.domainname.com) and/or add new domains on your account without having to pay a cent more!

The Host Gator web hosting starts at only $3.96 a month, which is very low already for all the great features you get, but if you want to save even more, I have a 25% discount code for my motherhood, etc. readers:  MOTHERHOODETC25

If you need help with setting up your own mommy blog, I would be willing to help you set it all up if you sign up with these services by clicking on my affiliate links:

where’s the time to work-at-home

I have a two year old toddler and a 9 month old baby, both girls, and am a full time Stay-At-Home-Mom (SAHM). I’ve been trying to start this blog for a couple of years now and I can’t seem to find the time to do it. I am hoping that THIS try is my last and that I can stick to it for a long time. I’ve been researching so many mommy blogs out there and cannot believe not only the volume of blogs but high quality, great information blogs out there. Here are just a few that I’ve been on these past few days:

* howtobeadad.com – fantastic Daddy site, about their experiences of being a Dad. Find out what IDs are in today’s post!
* 5minutesformom.com – so much information here for moms, about moms, resources for moms.
* http://momspark.net – this site has great information about blogging and social media.
* http://dooce.com – one of the most famous moms out there, she just writes and writes about her family.
* mommyologist.com – a site about mom sexy, how awesome is that?! she also has celebrity interviews too.
* mommymoment.ca – there are a lot of product reviews and giveaways, as well as… well, mommy moments.
* scarymommy.com – the latest (as of this post) blog post title is “fuck you, kids” (07.25.11) – enough said! lol

I surfed onto these sites from just a few days of looking at who’s on Twitter! When I go to these sites, they are all so professionally done, have great posts, and well established. In addition, they are so active on twitter! Tweeting like a bird like they have no kids! How do they do it??

So far, the only time I have found to be able to do any “work from home” by being a stay-at-home-mom is when:

MORNING:
* baby is taking 1st nap and toddler is watching a half hour cartoon, or
* baby is taking 1st nap and toddler is reading a book, or
* baby is taking 1st nap and toddler is playing by herself.
= 1 – 1.5hrs working time

MID-AFTERNOON:
* toddler and baby are alseep.
= 0.5 – 1.5hrs working time (usually the lower end!)

NIGHT:
* after both kids are in bed and all dishes are done.
= 3 hrs working time (if I want to go to bed by midnight!)

So I do get about 4.5 – 6hrs of working hours a day. Now that I tally it up, sounds like a lot of time but the time just flies by because it’s not concentrating working time. I always get interrupted somehow, whether it be one of the kids or my husband or tons of chores.  What I need to do is plan to get away from the house when my husband is home on the weekends. At least then, I have a few hours that are uninterrupted hopefully. What else can I do? We can’t hire anyone to watch the kids at this point. If you have ANY suggestions, please comment below! I would really appreciate some new ideas! :)
